What is Mentoring #2

“Mentoring is a process of spiritual growth during which a mentor prayerfully and intentionally

guides and walks alongside a mentee.” (Second Level Ministry)

Mentoring is like ‘the steering wheel of a car. Even if you have an idea of where you are going in the car, you cannot reach your destination without an actual steering wheel. In the mentoring relationship, the mentees can walk in faith more rooted in Christ through the example of their mentors, who are senior in the faith.

Also, they can not only move forward, but also turn in the direction they need to go because of the steering wheel. Having a mentor prevents us from becoming complacent, and we are often made aware of possibilities and paths that we could not have seen on our own. The example of faith is very important for all of us to grow as Christians. Let’s hold on to the steering wheel we have been given and enjoy the journey of faith with God!

In mentoring for Christian growth, you will experience the following:

∙ Application of truth

∙ Confirmation of faith

∙ Advice and feedback

∙ Encouragement, challenge, and loving correction

∙ Protection from temptation and sin

∙ Discovering God’s will

∙ Resources and networking, etc.

Second Level Ministry holds the value that in the lifelong process of sanctification, a relationship-based approach of growing to maturity in Christ is beneficial. This is why it is important to seek to be mentored by others and mentor others. All of this is done in the context of the mentor/mentee relationship.
